I did a 180 on working from home! - Full Video
Here is a recap of the Paparelli Zoom Chat for Entrepreneurs #16
Theme: “How I did a 180 on work from home!”
Special thanks to my guest Dave Payne, Managing Director, TechStars-Atlanta.
Quote of the call: “Starting a company is an art project.” (Dave Payne)
10 key takeaways from this call:
Define what made your in-office environment work well. Then define the tools, processes, and best practices to do it all remotely.
Work from home (WFH) is centered on trust-based relationships even more than the work.
When onboarding a new employee in WFH, start the process by connecting them to their new workforce before their first day of work. Make them feel a part of the company they are about to join.
It feels as though the internet has been leading up to this moment. There are so many tools now available.
Look at each tool as an individual use case.
Follow the long-term thought leaders in WFH, like Jason Fried of Basecamp.
Instead of fighting remote work environments, think about how this new operating environment can make your company even better...more effective.
The socialization that happens in an office is just not available in WFH. Those in-office, short conversations held over a long period of time result in lifelong connections.
Startup teams, or small development teams, really need to be in-person. There is just too much that happens in these creative sprints.
You have to create events and situations to replace some of the nuanced aspects of in-office interaction. (Contributed by Steve Shilling, Growth Orbit.)
