Defining the Ultimate Company Value Statement

As the elevator was descending from the tenth floor, it stopped on the sixth. The doors opened, and I saw a quote on the wall opposite the elevators. It read, “The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.” —Samuel Johnson.As I read it, a young lady stepped onto the elevator.I asked, “What company is on this floor?”She said, “Ultimate Software. We are a payroll solution provider.”“That is quite the quote on the wall,” I said.“It is often repeated by our CEO and founder, Scott Scherr. It describes who he is and who we are. This is a great place to work, and our CEO is an amazing man,” she responded.Living this quote is unique leadership.I have seen a lot of company value statements. They are generally a list of platitudes describing how wonderful the company is to work for and with.But this quote speaks to the heart of the leader. He loves people because they are people. Their ultimate value is in their existence, not what they do or how they might benefit him. Simply stated, he will treat all people with love and respect.I wonder what kind of company results from living this value.
