What Are Your 2024 Verbs?
I woke up on January 1 with the first clear thought I’d had in a week. I, like many of my friends, contracted a cold after Christmas, and it settled in my chest. This left me “cotton-headed,” as my English friend Geoffrey used to say. But for a moment, I was clear.
This thought hit me: It is not about goals or resolutions; it is about verbs. What I do every day is what makes a difference in my life and the lives of others. Goals, on the other hand, are “out there.” So, I started writing the verbs I needed to be thinking, praying, and doing.
My Verbs
Love
Kathy, family, friends, and the people I meet.
Pray
Be in daily conversation with my creator and sustainer, Jesus Christ.
Read
For stimulation, ideas, and entertainment.
Speak
Share the wisdom God gave me over the years through my experience and observations.
Write
Share the wisdom and ideas God is giving me today. Hopefully, it will help my entrepreneurs and angels in their daily lives.
Exercise
As my now retired internist used to tell me when I was a runner, “Walk at a brisk pace for thirty minutes every day. That’s enough.” I don’t need to go crazy with this. Just move. I know...I need to eat right, too.
Bless
Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” I want to be blessed so I will give daily. And I want the people around me to have the same opportunity for blessing. So I am going to ask them for their time, their treasure, and their talent.-
Witness
Share my story every day as a witness for Christ and as a way to establish new and deeper relationships. And ask others to do the same. Everybody has a story, and it is always a great story. This is a big part of the richness and meaning of life for me.
Finding Everyday Fulfillment
When I wrote these verbs, I had a sense of peace. I just knew they were right. Right for me. Right for this time in my life.
I am going to review this list a couple of times a day, once in the morning and once at night. Each of these verbs is a part of my operating system. But I want to be sure I am taking action on each of these every day. Then I’ll know I’m staying in balance and on purpose.
